-A Look Into The Reproductive Health Bill, By Sophia San Luis, College of Law representative
And tell me again, dearest Catholic Church, with all due respect, how much is your expertise regarding economic developments to tell the country that implementing the RH bill is completely unnecessary? Eh bakit kaya pinatupad ng UNITED NATIONS DIBA :(( Please please please please seriously can you still take the number of children being born by the minute with scarce resources awaiting them? I know I can't. You say resources are just not equally and equitably distributed amongst the regions, but hey, our frenzied population growth rate is one of the highly significant factors that causes resources to deplete more than they can regenerate. :( Population control, also, is highly prescribed now by the times and the society (heck, even the global community!)
No, I am not a laywer, a policy maker, or even a part of the Congress to take part on this. I know I don't have the full awareness regarding the matter. But it's been repeatedly clarified that this bill is not pro-abortion--it doesn't imply, by any means, life being taken away, for crying out loud :(
Church, whatever happened to freewill? Naisip niyo bang hindi lang kayo ang dapat na mag-decide dito, pero pati ang State, pati ang tao, ang ubong Pilipinas! It's the public's right to know which side to side with. They have the right to information regarding reproductive matters and family planning. Kaya more than 50% of the world's population hindi alam na ang bata nabubuo sa pagtatalik eh, dahil sa K-A-H-I-R-A-P-A-N. KAHIRAPAN. Hindi mawawala nang basta-basta 'yan. Kailangan nang gawan ng paraan. :( Okay nakakaiyak lang. Ang tagal tagal tagal tagal na nito sa Congreeeeeesssss.
:(
Go ahead, correct me if I'm wrong for I am willing to humbly take everything back. I completely realize my lack of knowledge on the matter. But this is still an opinion, mind you. I am more than willing to hear the Church's argument on this, given it's not the usual "That thing should remain sacred, not for hedonistic reasons, for it's the source of life!"
Anyway. Interview for Kule this Thursday. :O shooocks. Isa na namang mapagkukunan ng stress, pagpupuyat, at pagpapagod (kung matanggap man ako, pero pag-iisipan ko pa siguro) aside from Chem16 (meeh. shet.). At baka na rin ng away at hb-ness. Oh wells.
I shall play Moses tomorrow for Chem16 (lab). Damn my habit of volunteering. Hahaha.

Hello, world.
I've recently gone back to the habit of not eating during school days, only when I get home. For that, another 1000 bucks/week in my pocket! Yes yes, I decided that it's time I try saving my allowance once again for the reason that it's already November meaning it's nearing Christmas. And after Christmas is January, someone'll turn 17 by then.
Today I mark my respite, I remember saying one of those days during the sembreak. The first week was okay, the second week better. Well, the thing is, still now nothing changed. It really was just a break. Third week didn't go well as planned, same with the fourth and fifth.
Sometimes I feel good, sometimes I feel guilty. Always, always, I am in between and it's hard... it's been hard ever since. Now it's starting to hurt. The pain is already sinking in in places I thought I've mastered protecting.
I have accepted that allowing things to hurt me is not actually a surrender, rather it's I being strong enough to stand still no matter how much lemons life throws at me and taking the situation at a mature level. It's not mere passivity either; it's just I finally taking a leap of faith on the aftermath of my actions, finally practicing self-control, finally learning to be responsible.
Wag na kasing ipagpilitan ang mga bagay-bagay. Kahit gaano pa ka-mukhang tama.
I am sorry, more than anything, for doing the things I did without thinking and without considering other people.
Today, here comes another scheduling of respite. A break that will probably segue into what all parties wanted since that day. Hopefully, it will be successful but I doubt that, of course. Trust me, I'm no good at this compared to others. Baka nga bukas bawiin ko 'to ulit lahat. Hahaha. Gusto ko lang ma-post ngayon 'to.
I am seriously missing high school.
Yeah. That's it for now, world :) This blog won't be on hiatus, just so you know.

Prove the product-sum identity:
2 sin[(a+b)/2] cos[(a-b)/2] = sina + sinb
2
sin[(a+b)/2] cos[(a-b)/2] = sina + sinb
2
sin(a/2 + b/2) cos(a/2 – b/2) =
2
[sin(a/2) cos(b/2) + cos(a/2)sin(b/2)] [cos(a/2)cos(b/2) + sin(a/2)sin(b/2] =
2 [cos2(b/2)cos(a/2)sin(a/2) + cos2(a/2)sin(b/2)cos(b/2) + sin2(a/2)sin(b/2)cos(b/2) + sin2(b/2)sin(a/2)cos(a/2)] =
cos2(b/2)sina + cos2(a/2)sinb + sin2(a/2)sinb + sin2(b/2)sina =
sina[cos2(b/2)
+ sin2(b/2)] + sinb[cos2(a/2) + sin2(a/2)] =
sina(1)
+ sinb(1) =
sina +
sinb = sina + sinb
HAHAHA YEHEY. Yes, madali lang. Pero first approach ko kasi is let x be (1/2)(a+b) and let y be (1/2)(a-b). Tas nagkaron pa ko ng (1/2)(sina) + (1/2)(sinb). Basta. :)) Hahaha. Yehey! Cool kaya. At this is not one of your usual verifying identities exercises. Haha.
So I got a 1.0 for FA. Still waiting for Soc Sci 2 and Socio10 grades and STILL aiming for that university scholar badge. It's all about the GWA, if it's 1.5 or above, not with the subjects having 1.5 and above. Yehey!

YOWN. This just made my day. ;)
Hi Aprille,
Yes, I'll take some time to reply more substantially to your entries once I'm done grading.
Also, would you mind if I showed your journal to succeeding classes as an example of outstanding work?
Best,
Kenneth
THANK YOUUU. And to think I almost considered this as my worst class last first sem. Turns out, nooo, hell no, Geol 11 pala. I got a freaking 1.75. :| University scholar dreams of mine, bye bye. :(

Entry on Dr. Walden Bello's The Developmental State Debate as the Engine of Theoretical Innovation in International Political Economy in East Asia: Implications for the Social Sciences.
OKAY. Wala lang. Pinost ko lang yung medyo subjective parts. :)
On Ways to Development: Which is Better?Developmentalism can be defined as a situation when there is a ‘comprehensive’ developmental state in society that is significantly more powerful, politically and economically, than both the domestic capitalist class and the working class.* A developmental state is a particular type of state apparatus that prioritizes economic growth ‘over all else.’ (Johnson 1982; Woo-Cumings 1999) A ‘comprehensive’ developmental state is one which is especially dominant both in the political and economic sphere over capital and labor (Kim 1997). Many studies have already shown that comprehensive developmental states come to this position of disproportionate power through the use of force and from within an environment of instability, economic backwardness or geopolitical danger (Johnson 1982).
The talk included the on-going debate between Economists and Political Scientists themselves on what would really be the more effective and stabilized economy, a market-oriented or state-oriented one. Of course, Economists would likely advocate the idea of Neo-Liberalism (but having it discussed later in class, it is not that prominent amongst Economists after all) while Political Scientists tend to favor a society of having a controlled Market. Ideas clash; however, this collision turns out to be a tool for theoretical innovation as stated in the title of his talk. Ideas clash but they bring forth new ideas.
To determine which option is better, the developments of some countries, commonly in East Asia, were reviewed at panoramic angles and the conditions that initiated the progress such as the type of government, history, people, international and local relations and activities, etc. During the open forum, the notion a dictatorial government could probably ignite the development of a country as seen in cases such as that of Singapore, Japan, South Korea, etc. (Honestly, I vaguely remember which countries he mentioned) was raised. Bello argued such is not needed and he pointed out as example the United States being a developed country not ruled by a dictator. Moreover, he mentioned that a government not rooted in democracy could at first look good, but in the long run, this would turn out to be nasty and could limit development, leading to their own downfall. South Korea’s labor force, asked whether they think their economy is a developing one, smirks at the idea due to the fact that this so-called development doesn’t trickle down to the working class and that there is a lack of communication between workers and managers.
Some scholars insist to let the market institute development instead of putting it into the hands of the state (idea of Neo-Liberalism). Nevertheless, experience in Asia contradicts this. According to Bello, one of the two main reasons why he gave the talk is to crack the myth that markets lead to development. That markets, when uncontrolled, create havoc. And this holds true for most Asian countries. The state must act as a buffer between the local market and the international one.
Today (September 11, 2008), Structural Adjustment Programs (SAPs) was talked about in class and it reminded me of the Washington Consensus. I think both are US-based prescriptions (from the IMF and World Bank) having an oh-it-will-lead-you-to-success aura imposed to other nations. The SAPs are meant to promote economic growth among its members, but how come we do not see how it has helped the Philippines?
Solutions lie not solely on answers on what can be done, but also on how it can be done. Development and prosperity are asking too much from us, yes, and that is why it is a challenge! We must work our asses off to get to that. It is not only a question of stability, but also of development. It is not only a question of what is good for the economy or the state, but what is good for the people and their way of living. The developmental state must take into consideration social policy. If it does prioritize economic growth over everything else, the developmental state, then the aftermath of these should be conducive to the welfare of the people of the state and that their basic needs be met. This is where socioeconomics and economic sociology dimensions should come into view (but of course, developmental state must be grounded on to these schools first).

In other news, I am FINALLY a member of UP Math Club! WOOH! It was worth the wait, the pressure, the expenses (haha!), and, of course, hard work. Ang daming pinagdaanan, sobra. :)) Napagalitan na ko ng magulang ko, nag-away na kami ni JC, pero sa wakas tapos naaaaaaaaaaaaaa. FINALLY A MEMBER. :) The application process itself was way harder and stressful compared to any of my subject. 10am to 10pm ba naman yung initiation thing. Woah! haha. It was worth it :)
Might sign-up for AISEC next sem, or any human resources org. Someone is bothered, though, which makes me bother. Hmm.
